Our Techniques

Chiropractic Techniques

Within chiropractic, there are hundreds of different analyses and effective adjustment techniques. The doctors at The Homestead Family Chiropractic have been trained in a variety of techniques. After talking with and evaluating each individual practice member, we make a clinical decision about which technique(s) we think would be best for that individual!

If indicated, we can change which technique(s) we utilize throughout the course of care.

At The Homestead Family Chiropractic, the primary techniques that we use are Activator Method and Webster Technique. We also use specialized techniques for infants and children.

All of our techniques are gentle, specific, and nervous system based!

Activator Method

Activator Method is a gentle, specific analysis & technique that can be used for people of all ages. An instrument, called the activator, is used to deliver the adjustment to the spine or extremities. The instrument can be set to different forces, depending on the patient and the area being adjusted.

As part of the Activator Method analysis, the chiropractor will have you do a series of movements (i.e., raise your arm above your head), while checking your leg length. Because this method can be used to detect neurological imbalances that give the appearance that one leg is shorter than the other, the chiropractor can use this analysis to determine where you have a subluxation & where to adjust.

The adjustment is quick, gentle, & does not produce a cavitation (the β€œpopping” noise).

It is one of the most widely researched chiropractic techniques and the only instrument adjusting technique with clinical trials to support its efficacy.

Dr. Matt & Dr. Anna are both certified in this technique.

Webster Technique

The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic sacral analysis and adjustment. The goal of the adjustment is to reduce the effects of sacral subluxation/ SI joint dysfunction. In doing so, neuro-biomechanical function in the pelvis is facilitated.

Webster Technique is often used for pregnant mothers. Sacral subluxation may contribute to difficult labor for the mother (i.e., dystocia), caused by inadequate uterine function, pelvic contraction, and baby mal-presentation. Correction of sacral subluxation may have a positive effect on all of these causes of dystocia.

The adjustment involves correction of sacral misalignments and relaxation of the round ligaments.

Dr. Anna is certified in this technique through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association.
